Extensions Journal Volume 5: Performing Space and Place
Call For Submissions

Extensions invites submissions for its forthcoming issue: Performing Space and Place. We welcome scholarly essays, experimental writing, interviews, reviews, media/Web-based art works/projects, and documentation of music, dance, visual, sound, and performance art that explore the construction of space and place to/through performance.

Since Henri Lefebvre’s groundbreaking analysis in The Production of Space scholars and artists from an array of disciplines have continued interrogating the construction of space and place. This volume of Extensions will continue this exploration in terms of performance, which we broadly conceive to include space and place in performance as well the performance and performativities of space and place. We are interested in scholarly articles and digital media artworks that interrupt traditional narratives of space and place. We hope to continue the investigation began in our previous volume, Temporalities, regarding issues of presence in performance and new media, along with notions of space-time compression in this era of globalization. How does a postmodern understanding of space and place, which introduces notions of simultaneities, emerge from performance practices and everyday performativities?
